Let me tell you from experience how important it is to know how to shoot good digital video with your camcorder before going on that vacation or filming that big event. When I was getting married my sister offered to film the happy day for me with her new camcorder, I agreed as it would save money on the wedding as a videographer could get quite expensive.

Let me tell you how wrong I was, the digital video was dark, shaky and blurred anytime she went into zoom or moved around the room. The sound was off and muffled and it was more of a headache to watch rather than a joy. In a nutshell, I wish I spent money on a good digital video shooting.

I don’t want people to make the same mistake that I did so to spread the word on my learning experience I would like to pass on some great tips on how to shoot good digital video with your Minidv camcorder.

Tip #1 – Do not record while walking or moving about as the digital camcorder cannot stay focused on a moving object. Choose a place to stand and begin by recording a starting point for a few seconds before moving onto the next object. Slowly and carefully pan the camcorder to the next point of focus and hold there for a few more seconds before you stop shooting.

Tip #2 – Avoid excessive zooming of objects, not only does it kill the camcorder battery faster, it can give the viewers a crazy headache. If there were a moment you’d like to catch up close, stand still and take your time while zooming and shooting video, also try to avoid any quick motions, as the image will blur.

Tip #3 – Make sure that the lighting around you is bright enough and do not point the camcorder lens directly facing sunlight, not only can this damage the video camera lens, it will also blacken the images making for an unpleasant movie. Camcorders these days are not what they used to be. Camcorders were first introduced n the 70s. They were huge, bulky, had poor picture quality and the sound was even worse. People loved them. As technology progressed the camcorders got smaller and had better quality sound and picture.

In 2000, the camcorders had come a long way. They were sleek and small but the price tag did not match. You were lucky if you could find one for under $500.

Welcome to now. The camcorder’s out now are so small you can carry them around in your pocket and they have good picture and sound quality.

I’m quite the photography hobbyists, and own several digital cameras and DSLRs. I’ve been in the market lately for a smaller compact digital camera when I don’t feel like carrying my digital SLR camera around. Previously, I’ve had some good luck with other Canon Powershot cameras and the A590 IS asked look like a reasonable candidate. In this review, I’ll try and take a look at some of the more advanced features as well some of the basic features of the camera. Most cameras in its class, have a wide range of manual features. But, the Canon A590 IS offers some pretty beefed-up manual features as well.

SLR stands for single-lens reflex and if you’re ready to make the big step toward it a 35mm will help you along the way. This is the best camera format for high-quality images and it’s way better than wide-angle lenses, macro lenses or even zoom lenses.

On the other hand, a SLR camera is pretty expensive (almost $5,000) not to mention the rest of its accessories. Why is that? Because it simply offers the best control over the image. The technology behind SLRs uses regular 35mm films: black and white films, infrared films, transparency films and color negative films but you can also find a few models that still use 24mm Advanced Photo System films.

It’s easy to find the best selling cameras, simply by looking at the bigger online camera sellers, and see what they have on their front page.

One thing I’ve complained a lot about in the past, is slow shutter response in many compact cameras. It’s not really an issue with the A590. Surprisingly, for someone used to the speed of an SLR that’s quite a statement. If you practice a little bit, and get the hang of manually focusing your photos you’ll experience an even faster shutter performance speed.

You’re in for a real treat, if you’re the type of photographer that enjoys fiddling around with the manual modes on your camera. The A590 shows off much improved features over previous Canon Powershots in the A series. Including, a light meter, that makes suggestions for the ideal exposure settings. The resulting exposure, can be tweaked to the adjustment of the aperture and shutter speed. The M mode, is also much improved, in large part by the light meter.

First of all, we have the Canon PowerShot SD1100IS digital camera. It’s got plenty of resolution, with 8MP, and some nice features like image stabilization and optical zoom. It goes for about $150 these days. Secondly we have the PowerShot SD880IS from Canon. It’s a few more bucks, at around $250, but comes with 10MP, a 4 times zoom lens, and a few other nice features.

It’s not unusual to see so many Canon cameras dominate a top list, as they are the biggest camera seller in the world.

Most of the cameras I saw listed were from Canon. If your considering a SLR, the top selling SLR I saw was the Canon Rebel XSi. For only about $700, including a 18-55mm lens, that’s a great deal.

During my career as a photographer, I picked up lots of ideas that would help a newcomer start off on the right foot. The tips I am going to share in this article are my personal suggestions and should not be taken as state of the art truths.

1. The ISO setting is the only highly important technical detail you have to know about your DSLR. When taking pictures in an improperly lit room or outside at night, you can dramatically improve the quality of your shot by increasing the ISO setting. By raising it, the lenses will stay open for a shorter amount of time and the photo will be less influenced by the natural slight movement of hands.

A great advantage for film SLR owners is that most DSLR’s accept the lenses used by their analog predecessors, so you will not max out your credit cards on a new set of lenses if you decide to go digital.

Many believe that moving to DSLR is the right choice. If you have large quantities of photos to process, then film is no longer a viable alternative. With the decrease in the price of storage media, anyone can afford a 8GB or even larger memory card that can store thousands of high resolution photos.

Its water resistance allows you to submerge underwater up to 50 feet and make movies with it. As a downside, it comes with no optical zoom, only digital, so you probably shouldn’t count on using it at all. The speed range of the shutter is 1/10,000 of a second.

Keeping your old film SLR is also not out of question. The prices in this market are constantly dropping, so it will definitely not be long until you can get a full featured DSLR for half of today’s price. In the mean time, you can the feel of digital photography by scanning your pictures onto your hard drive.

Last, but not least, keep in mind that these digital SLR buying tips are derived from my own personal experience and should not be considered general truths. I am positive that there are many professional old school film SLR owners out there that will never go digital simply because they feel they don’t need it.

I’m in no way a professional photographer, but I enjoy and love photography as a hobby. And I found that with Olympus SLR cameras, sometimes it’s not about finding THE best camera.

For hobbyists like me, maybe the more important thing is to find the best camera deal without compromising much of the quality. This is why I went for the 8-megapixel Evolt E500 digital SLR camera with 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 and 40-150mm f/3.5-4.5 Zuiko lenses.

Smart consumers know, that getting the best price on digital cameras, really means getting the best price on the RIGHT digital camera. In other words, you need to know what your getting for your money.

We both also agreed that the E500 is lighter and more ergonomic than his 20D. Although my E500 pales in comparison to my brother’s 20D in terms of taking pictures in low light, I read that this problem has been resolved in the E300 and with firmware upgrades.

This is where things get a bit tricky though, as the factors worth considering are not always the ones camera manufacturers and salespeople tell you about. In digital photography, image sensor size, lens quality, battery consumption, and flash recharge rate, should all be considered.

Still, there are always a few differences between different models of cameras. In some cases the differences are big, in other cases small.One example would be the use of CCD sensors in Nikon cameras, while Canon models have CMOS.

FYI, ignore megapixel settings, as they’re really a non issues these days. Unless your comparing cell phone cameras, in which case the more the better. Face detection is something touted by a lot of manufacturers, but is really an imperfect technology at the moment. Don’t let that be a deciding factor in your purchase.

My own preferences, based on my own experience is for Nikon, but I have used a D200 camera for a long time so that’s my experience. At the same time, my father in law owns a Canon 20D digital camera and he also thinks its the best camera.

When I tried taking pictures in the evening, some of my pictures didn’t have proper focus, unlike my brother’s camera which also focused on the same subject as mine. Like I said, I’m not a pro, so maybe some of the “flaws” I report here may be caused not by the camera but by the user.
